ADOBE SCHOOL

AdobeSchool: Web Publishing Across the Curriculum. Adobe Systems Inc., 1997, 1998.

Adobe® PageMillTM and PhotoDeluxeTM are excellent Web publishing tools for students, but most teachers hesitate to tackle the job of having students create and maintain classroom Web sites. Their concerns include not only "How do I do it?" but also "How does it fit within my curriculum?" Teachable Tech worked with Adobe to develop a Web site that would provide Web site "how-to" information for both students and teachers, as well as curriculum-specific Web publishing lesson plans for K-12 classrooms in science, social studies, language arts and mathematics.

On-line support material includes:

  • Web Site Set Up Module: a step-by-step tool for teachers and students that guides Web site publishing, from liaison with the Web server to updating and maintaining student-created files
  • Web Glossary: a quick-reference guide to Web-related terms
  • Web Tools: information, Internet links and tips for setting up and maintaining a classroom Web site
  • Curriculum Matrix and Rationale: a source of curriculum-related Web site lesson plans and the rationale for their use
  • Curriculum Lesson Plans: step-by-step plans for both teachers and students as they connect the creation, implementation and maintenance of classroom Web sites to K-12 curriculum in science, social studies, language arts and mathematics

Teachable Tech’s responsibilities include:

  • Hiring, supervising, and conferring with writers and teachers/consultants
  • Writing and layout of teacher and student lesson plans
  • Creating sample Web sites for each plan
  • Capturing graphics for use in Adobe® PageMakerTMand Acrobat TM files
  • Setting up the design for HTML copies of the lesson plans, including Internet links to support their creation and maintenance
