From 1989-1998, Teachable Tech has developed, designed, written, edited and put on-line "The Daily Classroom Guide" to support CNN’s daily news service for schools. Beginning in 1987, TTI consulted with producers and educational consultants to devise a current news program that would attract and interest students. In addition, the copyright-free program is designed to support classroom teachers across the curriculum and across grade levels, from 5th through 12th grades.

Through the years, daily support material has included:

  • Rundown/summary to the program to guide viewing and segment selection
  • Key terms to improve spoken and written vocabulary and increase understanding of concepts, places and people in the news
  • Questions to spark discussion and problem solving
  • Short- and long-term activities to be completed as individuals, in small groups, or as a whole class
  • Reproducible student handouts to support research or guide activities
  • Background handouts for teachers and students to summarize, introduce and expand concepts
  • Internet sites to provide on-line access to information to support activities and discussion

Teachable Tech’s responsibilities have included:

  • Hiring, supervising and conferring with writers and teachers/consultants
  • Designing, implementing and revising classroom support material
  • Coordinating the writing, editing and uploading/delivery of the daily guide
  • Consulting, and working in conjunction with CNN NEWSROOM production staff
  • Consulting with Turner Educational Services (Turner Learning) and creating marketing and teacher training materials
